Extraordinary reduction in subsidies as of July 1, 2011 – Current draft
Currently, solar power plants with a total output of about 17 gigawatts are connected to the grid in Germany. Last year alone, more than 7 gigawatts of newly installed photovoltaics capacity was added - the forecast at the beginning of 2010 stated a maximum of 5 gigawatts.
Since the feed-in remuneration stipulated in the EEG shall be flexibly adjustable to the corresponding market development, it is carried out in accordance with the regulations of the “breathing lid” which structures the feed-in tariff on a diminishing scale depending on the expansion volume. Due to the record figures in 2010, the scheduled cut in German feed-in tariff was the possible maximum of 13 percent as of January 01, 2011.

Feed-in situation and additional volume in Italy
Italy’s state energy agency GSE has published new figures on the solar market. Accordingly, the total solar power output installed in Italy at the end of 2010 could amount to seven gigawatts. Up to now, the output of the new photovoltaic systems connected to the grid in 2010 was estimated at around 1.85 gigawatts (previous year: 720 MW). In addition, another four gigawatts are expected from systems that were also completed by the end of 2010 but will be connected to the grid by the end of June 2011. The operators of the systems thus have the opportunity to acquire the compensation from the previous year.

Maintenance of photovoltaic systems
Solar power systems are comparatively low-maintenance which means they generate relatively low costs. However, regular monitoring is highly recommended in order to identify potential defects at an early stage. This can be usefully combined with a maintenance agreement.
