Dear Sir or Madam,
more about the topics the industry and COLEXON was concerned about in the sunny month of June in this issue of the NewsBreaker.
We report on current political topics in Germany including the discussions on the adjustment of the Renewables Energy Sources Act (EEG) and on the RoHS Directive. Furthermore, we keep an eye on up and coming other markets, like Great Britain.
We also summarize our international trade show activities and are happy to be able to present you our product innovations by COLEXON.
Enjoy reading!
Best regards

Update Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG): Compromise proposal by mediation committee
Even after months of debate over an unscheduled degression of the EEG feed-in tariff for electricity produced with photovoltaics, there is still no reliable statement regarding which feed-in tariffs will be valid after June 1, 2010.

EC directive: RoHS – CdTe remains available for module production
In the past weeks, the ongoing debate over the environmental impact of Cadmium telluride (CdTe) has arisen in the European Parliament in the course of the amendment of the RoHS Directive (EC directive: Restriction of (the use of certain) hazardous substances). Currently, all solar modules are excluded from the RoHS directive. On June 2, 2010, the Environment Committee of the European Parliament recommended that the prohibition of Cadmium is still not valid for the photovoltaics industry and the so-called RoHS amendment is not extended to photovoltaics.

Market United Kingdom – UK feed-in tariff
With the passage of the feed-in tariff in April 2010, the United Kingdom solar photovoltaics market is positioned for rapid growth in the coming years. It supports projects up to 5 MWp and closely follows the German model, with adjustments for inflation and a degression rate to encourage efficiency.

Recycling PV modules
Though PV modules generally have a life cycle as long as two decades, the PV industry has a major interest in creating truly sustainable energy solutions that take into consideration the environmental impacts of all stages of the product life cycle, from raw material sourcing through end-of-life collection and recycling. Leading manufacturers embrace the concept of producer responsibility and set the highest environmental standards for their products. On a voluntary basis they put in place take-back and recycling programmes.

CO2 Savings
The energy mix in Germany consists of very different energy producers and changes every year. At the moment, CO2 emissions amount to approx. 550-600g CO2 per produced kilowatt-hour (kWh) electricity. These numbers may vary widely abroad. For example in France this value is only 80g/kWh due to the high proportion of nuclear power. Waste disposal is not taken into account in these calculations, however.
