    COLEXON NewsBreaker August 2010

Dear Sir or Madam,

Reduction of the feed-in tariff or not, the first half of 2010 was good for COLEXON. This is demonstrated by the figures that we were able to present in our half-year report. Once more it was clear that it makes sense for our business to be supported by three pillars. And there is more good news: solar systems are becoming still more competitive. And COLEXON has secured a further allocation of the best thin-film modules in the world for 2011. You can read about why this is so in this NewsBreaker.

We wish you enjoyable reading.

The solar industry grows more efficient

Solar electricity is coming ever closer to being an economically competitive alternative to conventional energy sources. This dynamic development towards what is known as grid polarity - the time at which solar energy will cost the same as energy from conventional sources - is attributable on the one hand to technological advances in the manufacturing process and on the other to significant efficiency increases in the development and construction of solar plant. This is being confirmed by recently published reports from various solar companies and elsewhere.

Shading

Shading plays a major role in the functioning of solar power plant. Temporary shading, for example by leaves, snow or dust, is usually removed by the self-cleaning function of the modules using runoff rain water. The more steeply the system is inclined, the better the self-cleaning works. Far more problematic than these temporary effects caused by simple accretion of dirt is the shading caused by the location itself. This relates mainly to shadow thrown onto roofs by, for example, trees, masts, antennae, smokestacks, or existing  buildings or planned future buildings in the vicinity.

BOS Costs

In photovoltaic systems, BOS (balance of system) costs include all costs for components and services that are required in order for a photovoltaic plant to be erected and made ready for service - excluding the costs of the modules. These might include, for example, the costs of inverters, substructure, cabling, and connection to the power network.
