Renewable Energies Act - Status Quo: Conciliation Committee

The federal states in East Germany have been particularly vocal in their criticism, as they fear a loss of important jobs in this emerging industry. At the end of May, several committees within the Federal Council (Upper House) spoke out in favor of conciliation proceedings with the Federal Parliament (Lower House), in order to mediate this conflict. A decision on this convocation is expected June 4. In this case, it is unlikely that the amendment would come into force by the end of June as originally planned.

In principle, the approval of the Federal Council, which comprises representatives of the federal states, is not required for the new regulations concerning solar subsidies. However, following the negotiations in the Conciliation Committee, the Federal Parliament must now, once again, deal with the project. If they manage to obtain an absolute majority of votes, the CDU/CSU and FDP could still reject this compromise and insist on the regulation agreed upon at the beginning of May.
